Taroko Gorge National Park Itinerary (Part 2) | Baiyang Trail | Zanne Xanne’s Travel Guide

Along Taroko Gorge National Park’s journey (太鲁阁国家公园) , one of the trails that located near to Tian Hsiang (天祥) is Baiyang Trail (白杨步道) which allows visitors to visit and explore various of waterfalls and trails nearby.

Baiyang Trail (白杨步道) is an estimated 2 hours walking round trip and 2.1KM long trail that allows visitors to pass through 7 tunnels in total.

SAFETY COMES FIRST

During your journey at Baiyang Trail (白杨步道), don’t forget to put on a safety helmet and flash on your torch light for safety purpose. In addition, Hualien and Taroko Gorge National Park (太鲁阁国家公园) prone to typhoon, earthquake and heavy rainfalls that may cause rockfalls and landslides while you are exploring in Baiyang Trail (白杨步道). Hence, one of the best ways to stay safe is to check the weather forecast regularly and avoid from visiting Baiyang Trail (白杨步道) during typhoon season or after days of heavy rainfall.

BAIYANG TRAIL | 白杨步道

Baiyang Trail (白杨步道) is the most easier trails to hike. You may follow  Baiyang Trail (白杨步道) signage as you reach the entrance gate situated next to the main road. Along the hiking journey, you will reach Observation Platform (观景亭) at 0.95KM, Baiyang Suspension Bridge (白杨吊桥) at 1.9KM and Water Curtain Cave (水帘洞) at 2.1KM.


Baiyang Trail (白杨步道) begins from a dark tunnel at the road side and Baiyang Trail (白杨步道) is wide and flat that rich in ecology and offers an awesome and lovely greenery scenary to the visitors.

The first half part of Baiyang Trail (白杨步道) is  accessible with wheelchair and Baiyang Trail (白杨步道) also open to all ages of people to explore and enjoy the nature.

Visitors able to open up their senses and explore the beauty of Taiwan nature closely. You may spot the butterflies, birds and other types of animals appear in the bushes along Baiyang Trail (白杨步道) too.


OBSERVATION PLATFORM | 观景亭

You may take a short rest at Observation Platform (观景亭) after 0.95km of hiking. Observation Platform (观景亭) also allows visitors to enjoy the unique view of the forest on the cliff edge.

BAIYANG SUSPENSION BRIDGE | 白杨吊桥

Baiyang Suspension Bridge (白杨吊桥) is located at 1.9km of the trail. Only maximum 10 people are allowed to cross Baiyang Suspension Bridge (白杨吊桥) at the same time. Visitors are not allowed to run, jump or sway while crossing Baiyang Suspension Bridge (白杨吊桥). In addition, bicycle and motorcycle are prohibited due to safety concern too. Visitors are encorage to report to Taroko Gorge National Park (太鲁阁国家公园) Head Quarter if there is any damage of Baiyang Suspension Bridge (白杨吊桥).

There is an observation deck that allow visitors to enjoy the majesty and spectacular view of Baiyang Waterfall (白杨瀑布) with its two steps drop from a 200m high cliff.

WATER CURTAIN CAVE | 水帘洞

Shortly after the Baiyang Waterfall (白杨瀑布), you may reach Water Curtain Cave (水帘洞) which located 300m away from the waterfall.

Water Curtain Cave (水帘洞) was formed by the spring water falling from the tunnel roof.

You may experience a naturul shower too and don’t forget to bring along a raincoat and a pair of sandals as well to explore Water Curtain Cave (水帘洞).
