Chao Yue Xuan Dim Sum House Review | Yishun Junction 9
I have been craving for a nice dim sum since this pandemic began as I used to fly back to Malaysia during the weekend and enjoy the local dim sum for my breakfast or tea time. Recently, one of the ex St Regis Dim Sum Chef – Vaness Chai has just opened a dim sum house Chao Yue Xuan Dim Sum 潮粤轩点心 at Yishun Junction 9 and he made all the dim sum in house and palate them professionally!
Chao Yue Xuan Dim Sum 潮粤轩点心 has attracted a large crowd everyday lining up in front of the shop, despite the opening was during this hectic pandemic period.
Chao Yue Xuan Dim Sum 潮粤轩点心 officially opened its door on 5th May 2021 at Junction 9. The queue looked short yet the waiting time is long! I have been waiting for 50mins, lining up in front of the restaurant.
JUMPING QUEUE INCIDENT
There was some unpleasant experience while waiting for our turn to be served. The staff has skipped my queue whereby there were only 2 of us (my friend and I) and she gave away the table (by right it should be our turn) to a bigger 5pax group that just joined the queue. As what I understand that, there was no booking or reservation system for Chao Yue Xuan Dim Sum 潮粤轩点心 yet. The staff claimed that the table is belonged to 5pax dine in instead of the small group. However, I saw there was a group of 2 sitting on the table where the staff claimed those tables should belong to 5pax. Hence, I’m feeling upset that they jump our queue without courteously informing us and there is no any notice about this “silent rule” as well! Don’t they know hungry customer is also an angry customer?
Finally after manage to get our table, we have to wait for another 10-15 mins again just to get the staff attention to take down our order. We have actually decided what we want during queuing, however the staff looked busy and told us that she will take our order after we have been seated. Unfortunately, this long waiting time had just made us mad.
MENU
Chao Yue Xuan Dim Sum 潮粤轩点心 offers more than 50 types of different dim sum for the customer to choose at the affordable price. Chao Yue Xuan Dim Sum 潮粤轩点心 also serve Hong Kong style noodle, congee such as Shrimp Wanton Noodle 鲜虾云吞面 and Classic Ting Zai Congee 荔湾艇仔粥 which is one of the must have food for the breakfast time.
We have ordered their Classic Ting Zai Congee 荔湾艇仔粥, Steamed Xiao Long Bao in Cantonese Style 港式小笼包 and Steamed Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun 秘制流沙包 to start with.
Overall, I would rate 4/5 for these 3 classic dishes as they tasted authentic and delicious. However, don’t leave the Steamed Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun 秘制流沙包 too long as they will turn hard once is cold. The best consume time is to consume it within 5mins after they have been served.
From the deep fried dim sum section, we also ordered Beancurd Skin Roll With Minced Pork & Shrimp 鲜虾腐皮卷 and Mango Prawn Roll 香芒鲜虾卷 to try with. The Beancurd Skin Roll With Minced Pork & Shrimp 鲜虾腐皮卷 tasted salty and I think the shrimp and minced pork has over marinated. However, the Mango Prawn Roll 香芒鲜虾卷 is a breath of fresh air to me! It was soft and juicy when you had your first bite.
We also ordered something special from the menu such as Charcoal Pastry With Salted Egg Yolk Custard & Longan 竹炭流沙龙眼酥. It tasted superb and delicious! The combination of salted egg yolk and longan was amazing.
However, their Steamed Har Kau 水晶鲜虾饺 and Steamed Spinach Dumpling With Shrimp and Scallop tasted normal. Some people may don’t like the Steamed Spinach Dumpling With Shrimp and Scallop 鱼子酱菠菜鲜虾带子饺 as it tasted too bland and normal.
OVERALL THOUGHT
Chef Vaness Chai was really professional and good in food palate. However, I hope Chao Yue Xuan Dim Sum 潮粤轩点心 can also put more effort on the taste and quality as some of the dim sum taste average. There are still room for improvement for the food quality, taste and service.
